I spent a month in Europe this spring, trekking from The Netherlands to London to Dublin using planes, trains, automobiles, ferries, and a (now) worn out pair of sneakers. This wasn’t what I would deem a vacation. It was travel. It was adventure. It was all about exploration in so many ways.
I tell you my tale of adventure, because that month in Europe was about exploration in every possible form: the pure adventure of exploring new places, the opportunity for me to dive deep into myself as I traveled through unfamiliar places, the trials and joys of living out of a small suitcase, and testing the strength of the relationship with my partner.
It’s with those memories in my mind that I introduce you to the Third Quarter issue of All Things Girl: Explore. Where we share with you the explorations of our inner – and outer – selves throughout the ‘zine that we call home.
As you wander through the virtual pages of All Things Girl, I hope you are able to pause and savor the lovely pieces that make-up this wonderful ezine. First, our classics and representative of our theme: Writings & Arts. In Writings, you will find the words of poets as they share the range of meanings to the theme “explore” as well as snippets of prose, creating stories of exploration for your enjoyment. And what can I say about Arts? Art is again a masterpiece, with the images reflecting the inner explorations women have made. (We’ll get to the “outer” views of exploration mid-issue at the end of August).
As always, Everything Girl makes me want to dance with joy. There is Part One of our interview with our cover girl, actress Renee Felice Smith and the talented Big Top Voice and Man of the Moment Johnathon Lee Iverson. You’ll also find an interview with actress Valerie Azlynn – as well as inner explorations from ATG Staff members and a couple of lovely guest authors.
Be sure and fill your glass of iced tea to the brim as you sit to peruse this beautiful issue.
If you are inspired to share your talents, submissions are open for future editions of All Things Girl. To be included in our mid-issue update, you’ll need to submit by July 31st. And don’t forget, we’ve opened submissions through the end of 2013.
On an administrative note, you’ll see a few changes here and there at All Things Girl. Long time Managing Editor Melissa Bartell is taking on a new role as our Editor at Large. Roxanne Ravenel has agreed to take on the role as our new Managing Editor. Elizabeth Rago is stepping up to become our Senior Editor. I’m so thrilled that the core management team of All Things Girl is growing. We have a lot of ideas to bring you a better experience here, and you’ll see the first changes in the ATG Blog with more interviews, more reviews, and more opportunities for thought provoking conversations.
We’re becoming deeply entrenched in “summer” here in the Northern Hemisphere, and it always brings to minds traipsing through the woods in search of wild blackberries and campfire stories. No matter where you are, or how you define summer, I hope that you take the spirit of exploration and apply it to the various facets of your life.
With much love and affection.
