As 2011 winds down and we look ahead to 2012, it seems appropriate to have a cover girl who makes her living sharing predictions, and helping people through cognitive therapy. Her name is Dr. Carmen Harra, Ph.D., and she’s a clinical psychologist, radio and television personality, and author. In the first half of our interview, we talk with why you shouldn’t be worried about the world ending next year, and chat a bit about her new book, Wholeliness: Embracing the Sacred Unity that Heals Our World.
Carmen, tell us a bit about yourself. I know you’re an immigrant from Romania?
Yeah, I was born in Romania, but I’ve lived in America for almost 30 years. I lived there when I was really young. You know, performing all over Europe. I changed my career when I came here. I got married and I reinvented myself. I became a psychologist and the author of six books. I have my own radio show, We Are One, and I’m trying to always reinvent myself, which I suggest everybody should do because it’s so much fun, and it gives always a new perspective on life and it’s like a new beginning
That’s a really interesting attitude. Do you think too many people get stuck in ruts and stay the same for too long?
I see this in my career every day, people being stuck in uncomfortable relationships and not knowing what to do with their career, not acknowledging their skills and abilities and they just don’t even feel that anything is possible. That’s what I’m teaching, this universal law of infinite choices. So never be afraid in life to think big, to create a bigger version of yourself.
What led you to combine the mystical part of what you do with the psychological part of what you do? Do you believe those two aspects can ever be disconnected?
No, those things are very, very connected. I mean, it’s all part of the state of the mind.
We live in the world of addiction and we see what’s happening in the world with Amy Winehouse and people like her dying very young. So many people dying at the age of 27, so there is a connection between, because of the physical time, there is a connection between the way the mind works, and metaphysics is really connected to physics.
I’ve tried to bridge is psychology with parapsychology because it makes perfect sense. And I’m also trying to teach people the ancient, the ancient teachings. Make them…bring the ancient teachings in modern form and make them be aware how significant it is to acknowledge that we are not only having the genetic code, but we also have the divine code.
So combining the behavior problem that someone has with where the problem is coming from, with all this kind of karma and spirituality. Combining elements, just understanding that about yourself, you have the power to actually demystify what’s in your life.
What I’ve found extremely fascinating is that making a prediction for someone is a powerful tool is because it opens the mind. It opens your thoughts to a different field. A prediction I make has a positive psychological effect in that person’s mind. I really think that this should be used more as a tool: integrating parapsychology into psychology, integrating all this ancient teaching.
I believe it’s also important to recognize that we all are connected. Not just to each other and to ourselves, but to the universe as a whole. Which brings me to your book.
Yes! That’s why the theme of my book, Wholeliness, is living in unity with past, present and future. Because if you look at someone’s life, many of the things that will happen to you are just the result of something that already happened. Making the connection between physical and invisible, between conscious mind, when you live at the level of the consciousness, and subconscious mind, when you store all your memories, it allows you to integrate and create the unity I’m talking about.
And then you believe so much in yourself, it’s just such a, it becomes such a powerful tool, there’s a combination of everything. We are just so much, you know, we are the soul, the spirit, the cells, the body, the mind. We live in the past, present, and future at once according to quantum physics, so the idea of unity with the people around the world makes us an unstoppable force.
Speaking of your book, Wholeliness, I love the title! I like that it’s a pun but that it’s also really accurate about what you are talking about. One of the things that I noticed about your book in particular, though, is that you make a distinction between religion and spirituality and I wondered if you would talk about that a little?
Absolutely. Well, you know that the concept of religion goes back to thousands of years ago and it comes from the Latin word “religio” which means unity. And talking about connections, there is a connection between the word religion, the word yoga. They all, in different cultures through the centuries, they all mean the same thing: to be united with yourself.
But spiritual is somebody who may or may not be religious. I should say that we all are what we think, and what you think you’ll become. We’ve been brainwashed by the belief that there are different gods, there are different forms of religion. The whole idea of religion at the origin was to bring us together. But we live in a time when we are more alienated from each other, we are more isolated from each other, we feel more lost and lonely than we have ever felt before, so then how can you bridge the whole idea of religion, that world religion is about, and spirituality which means being open to a different perspective and being open to the idea of your soul and the unity with God which is only one?
I think the world is going towards that point between being connected to God, and being spiritual, being a child of God and having the sense of unity with all of existence.
In both your blog and your book, you mention that you feel like the year 2012 and the mythological end of the world are weighing upon many people’s minds, but you also are very clear that the world is NOT actually going to end, but that a CYCLE will. Could you elaborate?
Absolutely. Well talking about us feeling afraid and isolated is because there has been fear in us. We have been programmed to believe that for thousands of years having to do with the predictions on the walls of the pyramids, predictions on the Bible, predictions made by the Mayan calendar and even by the Bible that in this time in our evolution we might face this apocalyptic era.
By definition we are afraid, afraid of tomorrow, and I think that what I’m trying to help people understand is to stop the fear and to reject these negative predictions because in essence it is not about anything ending, it is the end of an era, the end of a cycle. A cycle in the cosmic year, which is a season in the cosmic year for almost 6000 years is coming to an end. But this was a dark season.
An era is coming to an end opening a door to a beautiful new era and we transition from a phase in our lives when we were killing each other and feeling all this negativity around us and living a low level of consciousness. And we’re shifting that, we’re raising consciousness. We are moving into a brighter era into what is considered to be a golden era, a golden cycle. Because the perception will be higher, even our DNA is changing so the world is changing actually for the better.
It’s very hard to see because we are in that transition. In a transitory time, you don’t actually see what’s next. So that’s why it’s good to actually try to project and to try to understand what’s really happening to us and stop being afraid and coming together.
My belief is that raising consciousness will wake us up altogether. We’ll wake up in different times and say, “Wait, I have to come together with the rest of the world and change the wrong-doing that has caused so much bad karma through centuries.”
I hope that’s true because I don’t think that we’ve been listening to those warnings terribly well.
Well, you see Mother Earth responding by earthquakes and tornadoes. All these natural disasters are Mother Earth releasing the energy, sending an earthquake as a release of energy almost asking us, “Why do you continue to harm me? Why do you continue to harm each other? This is something you have to stop, because if you don’t stop, I’ll continue to send you signals something is wrong.”
I found it interesting, the signal about the shift of the pole. What does it tell us? If you interpret it in the metaphysical world, it’s telling us that we, globally, have to shift something. It’s not so much about Mother Earth shifting the poles, it’s about having to shift our belief system. We have to shift our actions. We, collectively, can do something because we are so powerful if we come together, and I really believe that the moment that we stop hurting Mother Earth – because you know we haven’t been treating our planet well for a very long time -
No, we are kind of bratty children.
The moment we stop, the earthquakes are going to stop, the tornadoes are going to stop, the shift of the pole can be stopped. It’s within our reach.
You’ve talked about coming together and you’ve talked about letting go of fear and what I liked about your book was that you have very specific tools that help people do that and I really liked your instructions to Observe, Pray and Act. Can you talk about that a bit?
I love my three steps because I believe that they can be so helpful. If you say, “Oh I’m stuck in my life, I feel I’m alone, I feel I’m lost, I feel I don’t have a life partner, I feel I don’t have the money that I want and I feel I am spinning around in circles for a long time without seeing a change,” then my advice is to use these steps.
The first is to Observe: What is it exactly did you do? What is it exactly that you need to change? What is it exactly that you want or need, versus your behavior, versus what you attract in your life? So be an observer of your life. In conjunction with the global world shifting around, so it’s going to help you to understand.
With the praying – I do believe in praying because it raises your consciousness, and it allows you to believe that there is help coming from the universe, from the divine. Through centuries, forever, we believe in God, we pray to God, we pray to the divine. But what does it do to us, those prayers, they are so powerful that they might even change us emotionally, mentally, even physically. A prayer with all your heart can bring you everything in your life, can heal you.
So, if you observe, then you know what you pray for. And the very moment that you pray, then you know that it’s not only enough to pray, it’s also, you take your prayers into your own actions. So what you pray you have to translate into your reality by acting.
I’m a firm believer that you cannot only close your eyes and see the ring in the window and have it on your finger, you just also have to work to make it happen. You have to act in such a way that your life is not going to be the way it was before because you observe the wrong action. Instead, you observe the wrong attraction, attracting the wrong people or attracting the wrong situation. Then you pray for that not to happen, but then take action to change it around.
I think this that this three-dimensional way to look at your life will actually…because we are talking about trinity and having to do with the world coming together at every level. I think that these three points will make a lot of sense to see a difference immediately in your life.
