Stewed Prunes and Chocolate by Penny Luker

There are days of low fat meals,

skimmed milk and bland crispbread.

Cravings for apple crumble

change to stewed prunes instead.

Those testy scales are laden

with feet hidden by the flab.

No mirrors in the bathroom

reveal the clothes, so drab.

Chocolate’s in the drawer,

a silent hidden treasure,

so rich and darkly smooth.

The taste of it’s a pleasure.

Adverts promote thinness

as an ideal woman’s form

but I suggest that chocolate

should be everybody’s norm.

Penny Luker is the assistant editor for the writings section at ATG. She writes poems and short stories and her work is being published in an anthology, called, “Flights of Fancy”. Web:
